Motor vehicle stop leads to illicit tobacco seizure, Boularderie, N.S.

Baddeck RCMP arrested a man and woman from Ontario as a result of a traffic stop on Highway 105 yesterday.

On April 10th at approximately 9:45 a.m., Victoria County RCMP stopped a vehicle on Highway 105 near Boularderie for speeding.

As a result of the stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted and police seized 300 ziploc baggies of illicit tobacco. Two Ontarians were arrested without incident and were taken into custody under the Federal Excise Act. RCMP Sydney Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit, Victoria County RCMP Members and a Service Nova Scotia Fuel and Tobacco Officer are assisting with the investigation.

A 50-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman from Toronto will be appearing in Sydney Provincial Court this morning to face charges under the Federal Excise Act and the Provincial Revenue Act. The investigation is continuing.
