Motorists Advised to Avoid Main Street due to Traffic Delays

Tuesday, June 9, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents to expect significant traffic delays on Main Street in Dartmouth this afternoon and are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible on their evening commute.

The traffic lights at the intersection of Main Street and Hartlen Street are currently not working, due to complications from a natural gas pipeline installation in the area. Crews are working to restore the lights to flashing red, which motorists are reminded to treat as a four-way stop.

Until the lights can be restored, traffic in the area will be reduced to one lane in each direction, directed by traffic control personnel on site. Motorists should expect stop-and-go traffic and are asked to drive carefully through the area.

Crews hope to have the problem fixed by about 5 p.m. today. The municipality and Heritage Gas regret any inconvenience this work may cause.
