Mounties reiterate: Lock your cars

From RCMP:
Thursday, July 15, 2010 Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), N.S….  Members of the Halifax District Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) continue to investigate several incidents of Thefts from Motor Vehicles.

Most recently, vehicles on Sampson Drive, Chandler Drive, Belvedere Drive, Hillside Drive and Oakville Drive in Lower Sackville were targeted.

In many cases, vehicles have been left unlocked overnight.  With summer weather upon us, car windows are being left open, as well.  Unfortunately, these are open invitations for would-be thieves.  GPS units, satellite radio receivers, laptops, purses, wallets and loose change are among commonly taken items.  To combat this issue, RCMP members have increased vehicle patrols in problem areas, as well as foot and bicycle patrols, but are still seeking assistance from the public.

If you have information regarding specific thefts or suspicious activity, you can contact RCMP and Halifax Regional Police directly at 490-5020, or Crime Stoppers anonymously, anytime, at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) (or by their Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca).  Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash award from $50 – $2000.
