Multi-agency search for missing swimmer

Lunenburg District RCMP is leading a multi-agency search for a missing swimmer in Gold River.

On July 24, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP, fire, and EHS, responded to a report of a missing swimmer near Beech River. RCMP officers learned that three men had been tubing in the Gold River when their tubes capsized. Two of the men made it to shore; the third man was last seen drifting down the river.

Lunenburg District RCMP, with assistance from RCMP Air Services, RCMP Police Dog Services, the Joint-Rescue Co-Ordination Centre, the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, the Western Shore Fire Department and ground search and rescue teams from multiple jurisdictions, began searching the area. The man has not yet been located.

Search efforts are continuing today.

Due to the high water levels throughout the province resulting from the weekend’s historic rainfall, the RCMP is asking the public to use extreme caution in, or around, waterways, until water levels return to normal.
