Municipal fires and impacts update – June 3, 1 pm

Evacuation area update

The pre-evacuation notice has been lifted for residents in the Farmers Dairy Lane and Lucasville areas (Viscount Run, starting at the intersection of Spyglass Run, up to and including Cloverleaf and Summerwood lanes). Residents of these areas are no longer required to be prepared to evacuate within 30 minutes.

When there are changes in the status of evacuation orders, the provincial alert system will be used, along with municipal public service announcements, updates to halifax.ca/fire and social media.

Access to information for residents in the area of significant impact

Based on current assessments, it is believed that the worst damage is contained within the area of significant impact. Residents in the area of significant impact can visit the Canada Games Centre (26 Thomas Raddall Drive) to speak with municipal staff about the status of their property today, Saturday, June 3, until 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 4. This is only open to residents in the area of significant impact. The municipality does not have photos of damage to homes outside of the area of significant impact.

The municipality is making best efforts to balance the interest of respecting the wish for privacy among residents – particularly those whose homes have been damaged or destroyed – with granting restricted media pool access to the areas in the days to come.  More details will be shared once confirmed.

Monitoring the situation

We understand residents who remain evacuated are eager to return home. While the fires in the Halifax Regional Municipality are approximately 85 per cent contained, they still pose a significant safety risk to a number of communities. As soon as it is safe to return, residents will be advised.
