Municipal programs and services for Victoria Day, Monday, May 23

Friday, May 20, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for Victoria Day, Monday, May 23:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:

No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Victoria Day, Monday, May 23. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday, May 23, will occur instead the preceding Saturday, May 21. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Monday, May 23, but will be open for regular operating hours on Saturday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 24.

The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, May 21, and will re-open for regular operating hours on Saturday, May 28. There will also be a Mobile Household Special Waste Drop-off Event on Saturday, May 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Halifax Transit’s Porters Lake Park & Ride lot located at 21 Inspiration Drive, Porters Lake, exit 20, Highway 107.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services:

Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Victoria Day, Monday, May 23. For detailed holiday schedules by individual bus and ferry route, visit www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/index.php.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:

The majority of municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Victoria Day, Monday, May 23. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is online at www.halifax.ca/rec/reccentres.php.

Parking:

On-street parking meter spaces are free on Victoria Day, Monday, May 23, however motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage.

311 Citizen Contact Centres:

The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Victoria Day, Monday, May 23. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, May 23, re-opening for regular business hours on Tuesday, May 24.
