Municipal programs and services on Easter weekend

Tuesday, April. 11, 2017 (Halifax, NS) - The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments over the upcoming Easter weekend: Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours: No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Good Friday, Apr. 14. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Friday, Apr. 14, will occur instead the following day, Saturday, Apr. 15. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day. Residential curbside collection will proceed as scheduled on Easter Monday, Apr. 17. The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Good Friday, Apr. 14, but will be open for regular operating hours on Saturday, Apr. 15 and Easter Monday, Apr. 17. The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Apr. 15, and will re-open for regular operating hours on Saturday, Apr. 22. Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services: Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Good Friday, Apr. 14, as well as Easter Sunday, Apr. 16. Please note there will be no ferry service in operation on Good Friday, Apr. 14, or Easter Sunday, Apr. 16. Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services: The majority of municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Good Friday, Apr. 14, Easter Sunday, Apr. 16, and Easter Monday, Apr. 17. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. The Emera Oval will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Good Friday, Apr. 14, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 15 and Easter Sunday, Apr. 16, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Easter  Monday, Apr. 17. Parking: On-street parking meter spaces are free on Good Friday, Apr. 14 and Easter Monday, Apr. 17, however motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage. 311 Citizen Contact Centres: The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., daily throughout the Easter weekend. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Good Friday, Apr. 14, and Easter Monday, Apr. 17, re-opening for regular business hours on Tuesday, Apr. 18.
