Thursday, July 28, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for Natal Day, Monday, August 1:
Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:
No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Natal Day, Monday, August 1. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday, August 1, will occur the preceding Saturday, July 30. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Monday, August 1, but will re-open for regular operating hours on Tuesday, August 2.
The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, July 30 and will re-open on Saturday, August 6.
Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services:
Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday schedules on Natal Day, Monday, August 1. For detailed holiday schedules by individual route, visit www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/index.php. Regular fare payment will apply.
To accommodate the many citizens attending Natal Day events, Halifax Transit is offering free Alderney Ferry service on Saturday, July 30th:
Alderney Ferry: 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (regularly scheduled service); 12:30 p.m. to midnight (every 15 minutes).
Please note that other than Saturday, July 30, there will be no additional ferry service added throughout Natal Day weekend.
Bus/shuttles from Alderney to Water St. terminal will be scheduled as required to assist with high volumes of traffic on the service.
Please note there will be no Woodside Ferry service in operation over the weekend.
The Macdonald Bridge will have a regularly scheduled closure on Natal Day weekend from 7 p.m. on Friday, July 29 until 5:30 a.m. on Monday August 1. The bridge will re-open 5:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, August 1.
Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:
Municipal beaches and the outdoor pools at the Halifax Common and Bedford (Shore Drive) are open to the public on Monday, August 1. There are a variety of beaches across the Halifax region which are supervised by trained lifeguards, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Emera Oval is open on Natal Day; please visit www.halifax.ca/skatehrm/calendar/ for a detailed schedule.
The majority of other municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Natal Day, Monday, August 1. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Parking:
On-street parking meter spaces are free on Natal Day, Monday, August 1, however motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage such as no-parking zones.
311 Citizen Contact Centres:
The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Natal Day, Monday, August 1. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, August 1, re-opening for regular business hours on Tuesday, August 2.
