Municipal services on Natal Day, Monday, August 3

Wednesday, July 29, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following service levels in effect on Natal Day, Monday, August 3:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:
No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Natal Day, Monday, August 3. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday will occur instead on the preceding Saturday, August 1.

 
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Natal Day, Monday, August 3, but will be open for regular hours on Tuesday, August 4. The residential Household Special Waste (HSW) Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr. will be closed on Saturday, August 1, and will re-open on Saturday, August 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents are reminded that new solid waste collection changes go into effect on Saturday, August 1, including a switch to clear garbage bags. For more information on the new program requirements visit www.halifax.ca/clear. Also, weekly curbside green cart collection is currently underway for all municipal residents, and will be in effect each week in July and August. Collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure collection, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Service:
Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday schedules on Natal Day, August 3. For detailed holiday schedules by individual route, visit www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/index.php. Regular fare payment will apply.

To accommodate the many citizens attending Natal Day events, Halifax Transit is offering free Alderney Ferry service all day on Saturday, August 1. For detailed Alderney Ferry service schedules, visit www.halifax.ca/transit/natalday.php

Please note there will be no Woodside Ferry service in operation over the long weekend.
 

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:
The majority of municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Natal Day. Please contact your individual facility in advance to confirm operating hours.

Parking:
On-street parking meter spaces are free on Natal Day, however motorists must abide by other posted signage.

311 Citizen Contact Centres:
The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Natal Day, August 3. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Natal Day, August 3, and re-open for regular business hours on Tuesday, August 4.
