Municipal services on Remembrance Day

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal service levels in effect on​ Remembrance​ Day, Monday, Nov. 11:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:​ No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11, will occur instead on the preceding Saturday, November 9. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, please place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and composting facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, but will be open regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 9 and will re-open for regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 16 and 23.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services:​ Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on​ Remembrance​ Day, Monday, Nov. 11.

For detailed holiday schedules by individual route, visit​ www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/index.php. Halifax Transit is pleased to offer free transit to veterans and military personnel in uniform or displaying a military identification card, and family members accompanying them, on Remembrance Day.​

Free transit for veterans and military personnel on Remembrance

In recognition of those who serve our country, Halifax Transit is offering free transit to all veterans and military personnel, and accompanying family members, on Remembrance Day, Monday, Nov. 11.

Veterans or military personnel wishing to use the free transit service are simply asked to be in uniform or display their military identification upon boarding.

This offer extends to Halifax Transit bus and harbour ferry services, as well as registered Access-A-Bus users.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:​ Many municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, Monday, Nov. 11. Please contact your individual facility in advance to confirm operating hours.​

Customer Contact Centres:​ The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on​ Remembrance​ Day, Monday, Nov. 11.

The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed Monday, Nov. 11.

Residents are encouraged to take a moment on Nov. 11 to remember those who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.
