Municipal services on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11

Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following service levels in effect on Remembrance Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:
No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, will occur instead on the following Saturday, Nov.

14. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.
 
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, but will be open regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 14. The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 14, and will re-open for regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 21 and 28.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services:
Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. Please also note that veterans and military personnel, and accompanying family members, may travel for free on Remembrance Day. Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:
Municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.

Parking:
On-street parking meter spaces are free on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, however motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage.

311 Citizen Contact Centres:
The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and re-open for regular business hours on Thursday, Nov.12.
