Municipal solid waste collection cancelled for Friday and Saturday, Mar. 20 & 21

Thursday, Mar. 19, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables is cancelled for tomorrow, Friday, Mar. 20, and Saturday, Mar. 21, as a result of yesterday’s storm and its impact on road conditions throughout the region. Collection on Saturday was scheduled earlier this week as an alternate date for Wednesday’s cancelled collection.

Please note that solid waste collection cancelled this week, from Wednesday to Friday inclusive, will not be rescheduled. Residents are asked to hold onto their waste until the next regularly scheduled collection day. For those areas on garbage week, the municipality will accommodate the missed collection by allowing double the regular garbage bag limit on Apr. 1, 2, and 4. Please note that Apr. 3 is Good Friday, and therefore alternate collection for Friday, Apr. 3 will take place on Saturday, Apr. 4.

Municipal solid waste facilities will be open for regular operating hours on Friday, Mar. 20, including:

  • Otter Lake Waste Processing & Disposal Facilities at 600 Otter Lake Dr.
  • Materials Recycling Facility at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr.
  • Composting Facilities at 80 Gloria McCluskey Ave. in Burnside and 61 Evergreen Place in Goodwood

The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive will be closed on Saturday, Mar. 21. The HHW depot will re-open on Saturday, Mar. 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The municipality apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks residents in advance for their cooperation as we continue to clean up from this week’s storm. For solid waste collection schedules and sorting information, please visit www.halifax.ca/recycle.
