Wednesday, June 3, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Get active and have fun this weekend by taking part in some of the free activities the Halifax Regional Municipality is offering at many of its facilities to celebrate Recreation Day on Saturday, June 6.
June is Recreation Month in Nova Scotia. As well, our municipal government has made it a priority to encourage healthy communities across the Halifax region.
That means building safe, liveable and accessible neighbourhoods where residents have access to facilities and open spaces that foster connectivity and physical activity.
With that goal in mind, there will be 19 municipal community recreation centres taking part in Recreation Day this Saturday. Some of the free activities include yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi in DeWolf Park in Bedford, family Zumba, arts and crafts and a bike rodeo in Cole Harbour, and pickle ball, geocaching and a scooter jam in the skate park in Fall River. Many recreation facilities are also offering open gym time and access to weight rooms during certain hours.
A full list of activities is on the municipal government website at www.halifax.ca/rec/RecreationDayEvents.php.
Residents can contact their local community recreation centre for more details and follow @hfxrec on Twitter for updates. For more information on municipal recreation programs and activities this summer, visit http://www.halifax.ca/rec/index.php.
