The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that a new, public and universal washroom will open today – Wednesday, June 29, 2022 – at the Fort Needham Memorial Park.
This facility will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, all year round. It is located near the Needham Street entrance of the Fort Needham Memorial Park, and was identified as a priority under both the Fort Needham Memorial Park Master Plan and the HRM Parks Washrooms & Drinking Fountains Strategy.
The new washroom is the first building that meets the municipality’s new net-zero construction standard, which means that 100% of a building’s energy need is generated on-site or off-site through a renewable source. This new facility also meets the municipality’s climate action commitments under HalifACT: Acting on Climate Together and the associated Administrative Order 2021-002-OP – Respecting Net-Zero Construction of New Municipal Facilities within the Halifax Regional Municipality. The washroom also has the latest standards for accessible washrooms, including an adult change table.
