Acadians across the province will celebrate their heritage on National Acadian Day, Tuesday, Aug. 15.
“National Acadian Day is the opportunity for all Acadians to celebrate their culture and heritage with their families and friends,” said Acadian Affairs and Francophonie Minister Lena Metlege Diab. “I encourage all Acadians, by birth or by heart, to proudly share their stories and partake of the rich Acadian culture here in Nova Scotia.”
Activities across the province include:
— fun for the whole family at Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos, West Pubnico, Yarmouth Co., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
— tintamarre of the Festival Acadien de Clare, which starts at 6 p.m. in Saint-Bernard and Salmon River, Digby Co., followed by a show at Université Sainte-Anne in Church Point.
— tintamarre leaving École acadienne de Truro at 5:45 p.m., followed by Maritime Marionettes from 6 to 7 p.m. and the band ACA-jam from 7 to 8 p.m. in Truro, Colchester Co.
— flag-raising starting at noon at Grand Parade, 1790 Argyle St., Halifax, followed by a reception and a show at Halifax Central Library at 5 p.m.
— tintamarre starting at 6:30 p.m. from Centre Les Trois Pignons in Chéticamp, Inverness Co.
— flag raising at city hall in Sydney, to be followed by a tintamarre at 10:45 a.m. and an Acadian snack at Étoile de l’Acadie community centre.
The Acadian flag will be flown at Province House and Government House in Halifax.
