Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency personnel were on scene at a natural gas leak in Burnside.
Initial reports from the scene suggested construction crews working at the Joseph Zatzman Drive and Akerley Boulevard intersection punctured a four-inch natural gas main pipe.
The concern was that readings are being taken near the area that show high explosive levels, especially from storm sewer openings.
As a precaution, approximately 40—50 buildings were evacuated in the Joseph Zatzman/Akerley Boulevard area.
Nova Scotia Power also turned off electricity to a large section of the business park.
Heritage Gas was on scene assisting fire crews in the capping and/or crimping of the affected gas main pipe.
Halifax Regional Police are also on scene assisting with traffic control.
