General deer hunting season begins on Friday, Oct. 28, and continues to Dec. 3.
“Deer hunting is enjoyed by thousands of people each fall in Nova Scotia,” said Minister of Natural Resources Lloyd Hines. “While we have an excellent safety record, participants are reminded that they are required to wear hunter orange, and non-hunters are recommended to do the same when they are entering the woods during hunting season.”
Hunters are also required to carry a compass and waterproof matches. In addition everyone should carry a map or GPS unit, a first-aid kit, a communications device and tell someone when and where they will be in the woods.
Hunting of all wildlife, except moose, is allowed on two Sundays during the season: Oct. 30 and Nov. 6.
Hunting regulation booklets are available at hunting-licence vendor locations and Department of Natural Resources offices. The regulations and safety advice are also available at www.novascotia.ca/natr/hunt .
