(EDIT: After this post was made, Audi went ahead and decided to just divulge all the details. Some main points are:

– The second generation of the high-performance sports car makes its debut in Geneva
– 5.2 FSI engine with up to 449 kW (610 hp), 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.2 seconds
– New multimaterial Audi Space Frame with high proportions of aluminum and CFR

Check back to Car Driven for more details as they arise – Eddie)

Audi’s soon to be iconic R8 high performance car has been leaked ahead of its official debut.

While not a strong departure from the original design of the R8, the new version does sport evolutionary styling cues such as the new corporate headlight scheme and a re-worked grille that is similar to the recently redesigned Audi TT.

The new R8 will supposedly get its underpinnings from the Lamborghini Huracan. There have been rumours that the new R8 could get several engine options including a V10 sporting numbers both in the 500 to 600 horsepower range along with the possibility of a V6 and even a diesel.

The second generation R8 is still poised to take the stage for its official debut at the Geneva Auto Show next week, so we should have more information then along with more shots of any other changes made to the exterior styling.

What are your first impressions of the R8?
