New Board Chair Elected

Bert Frizzell has been elected today, June 22, as the new chair of the Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) board by the crown corporation’s private-sector-led board of directors.

“I am honoured by my colleagues and I gladly accept my new role as chairman of the board,” said Mr. Frizzell. “The board and the staff of NSBI will continue to work for positive outcomes for Nova Scotians.”

Mr. Frizzell is currently vice-chairman at The Shaw Group and serves on the board of directors for Acadia University, Heritage Gas, LED Roadway Lighting, and West Bedford Holdings Ltd. He has held senior management positions at The Shaw Group for more than 40 years including president, chief operating officer, and chief executive officer. Mr. Frizzell has been a director on the NSBI board since 2011.

“It has been a pleasure working with Bert over the last five years on the board,” said outgoing board chair Janice Stairs. “I look forward to Bert’s continued contribution in his new role as the board chair.”

Ms. Stairs has chaired the board since October 2012, and has been a director since 2009. She continues with the board as a director.

“The private-sector experience, expertise and leadership of Janice Stairs and Bert Frizzell demonstrates the calibre and depth of our board,” said Laurel Broten, NSBI’s president and CEO. “I am very pleased to continue working closely with our strategic board, and Bert as the new chair, to strengthen and grow Nova Scotia’s economy.”

Nova Scotia Business Inc. board members are business leaders from communities across the province and who represent a diverse range of sectors and business interests.
