Tourism Nova Scotia announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors today, Nov. 24.
The new appointments are Patricia Lyall, past president and CEO of Destination Halifax, and Gordon Stevens, founder and president of The Uncommon Group, a group of retail stores including, Uncommon Grounds, Rum Runners Rum Cake Factory, Sugah! Confectionery, Lost Cod Clothing Company and High Seas Taffy and Tees.
“Our skills-based, private-sector board has oversight responsibility for the organization and provides strategic guidance and direction to Tourism Nova Scotia staff,” said Irene d’Entremont, chair of Tourism Nova Scotia’s board. “We now have a full board in place with the addition of these individuals.”
“Tourism Nova Scotia’s focus on attracting more, higher-spending visitors to the province is key to advancing Nova Scotia’s economic growth strategy,” said Geoff MacLellan, Minister of Business. “I congratulate Ms. Lyall and Mr. Stevens on their appointments.
“Their skills and experience will be a great asset to the organization as they work with Nova Scotia’s tourism industry to reach $4 billion in tourism revenue by 2024.”
Ms. Lyall worked in the hospitality industry for more than 40 years, primarily in the accommodations sector with major hotel chains including ITT Sheraton, Canadian Pacific Hotels and Resorts, and Delta Hotels and Resorts. A resident of Hants County, she’s held board positions with the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada Tourism Partnership, Canadian Tourism Commission, Halifax Gateway Council and the Destination Marketing Association of Canada.
Mr. Stevens, a native of Louisbourg, is an entrepreneur, former chartered accountant and hedge fund executive. He created the local co-operative marketing and promotional brand for independent retailers and restaurants in Downtown Halifax, I Love Local HFX, and has served on the boards of Taste of Nova Scotia and the Downtown Halifax Business Commission. He previously chaired the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia and sat on the National Board of the Arthritis Society of Canada. From 2013 to 2015 Mr. Stevens served on the Capital Campaign for Halifax’s Central Library and Chaired the Community Campaign for the new library.
