New bridge planned to ease wind turbine delivery to Nova Scotia

The Strait of Canso Superport is getting a $750,000 upgrade to help move wind turbine parts more safely and efficiently. A new 44-metre steel bridge will connect the Mulgrave Marine Terminal to Route 344, making it easier for trucks to transport equipment to wind farms in Nova Scotia.

Big parts of wind turbines, like blades and towers, are shipped from other countries and arrive at the Strait of Canso Superport. The Strait has deep water and large a space for unloading. From there, trucks take them to wind farms being built nearby. This saves time and money while helping Nova Scotia reach its clean energy goals.

Wind energy plays a key role in Nova Scotia’s 2030 Clean Power Plan, which aims to have 80 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 and be net-zero by 2050. This investment in the Superport supports future wind energy projects, such as the nearby onshore wind farms proposed for Guysborough County.
