New Nursing Home for Mahone Bay

Seniors in Lunenburg County will have access to a new and modern long-term care facility with the replacement of the Mahone Bay Nursing Home.

“Over the last year we have announced almost 200 new nursing home beds across the province,” said Leo Glavine, Minister of Health and Wellness. “We are steadfast in our commitment to providing access to quality long-term care for Nova Scotians.”

The new, 96-bed facility will be operated by MacLeod Group Health Services Ltd. The three-storey building has been designed with current best practices for infection control and dementia-friendly nursing care.

Two designated care floors will each have three wings, comprised of 16 private rooms with private washrooms. Each wing will be self-contained and have its own dining, activities and dedicated staff.

The home will have a large community room on the main level with access to an outside patio, garden and community trail.

The facility, which will create 60 new full-time jobs, is expected to welcome residents in December 2022.

“We are excited by the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a new nursing home to serve our community of Mahone Bay and the South Shore. The home’s design creates smaller neighbourhood-like areas that promote close-knit community while enabling best practices for infection control and resident safety.”
