New Poet Laureates – Halifax, Vancouver and USA

I recently had the good fortune to meet HRM’s 4th poet laureate, the very charming and talented Tanya Davis. I think that it is absolutely fantastic that our fair city continues to recognize the value, importance and beauty of poetry. I was thinking about this as I noticed in the news today that Vancouver has just announced Evelyn Lau as their 3rd Poet Laureate and that Philip Levine has recently been named as the 18th US Poet Laureate.
As for our own National Poet Laureate, the position is currently vacant – with a call for nominations coming soon.
