New Public Housing for Glace Bay

New public housing for Glace Bay announced today, March 13, will provide homes for up to 56 people.The new three-storey, 22-unit building will have a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, with the first floor fully accessible.

It will be built at the site of the John Dan Complex, 46 Sterling Rd., in Glace Bay. Construction will begin in spring 2025 with completion targeted for fall 2026.

“This investment in public housing is going to make a difference for many people in Glace Bay,” said John White, MLA for Glace Bay-Dominion on behalf of John Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “Government is investing and moving as quickly as possible to increase all types of housing, so more Nova Scotians have a comfortable and affordable place to call home.”

The new housing units are part of the 222 units for the province announced in September; 150 of the units will be built in the Halifax Regional Municipality at the location of Sackville Manor and Ahern Manor and Uniacke Square. Eleven units will be built at the site of Hilltop Manor in Kentville and 21 units will be built at the site of Pineview Apartments in Bridgewater. Detailsabout others will be released soon.

The sites were selected based on:
– suitability of the property
– capacity to add more units to existing public housing sites
– need for public housing and accessible units
– proximity to services and amenities such as grocery stores and public transit.
