New Roundabout on North Park Street Open to All Users

Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The new roundabout at the intersection of North Park, Cunard and Agricola streets in Halifax is now open to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Crews finished the paving work earlier than expected this past weekend and the roundabout opened Sunday afternoon.

So far traffic has been moving smoothly through the area. All users are urged to watch out for the new traffic signage and to follow the rules for navigating a roundabout.

The temporary crosswalk near Cornwallis and North Park streets has moved back to its original location at the corner of Cornwallis with the overhead push-button activated crosswalk lights. As part of the changes in the area, that crossing has also been shortened from 24 metres to a six-metre and seven-metre crossing, with a 3.7-metre pedestrian refuge in between.

The North Park Intersection Redesign is a two-year project, beginning with the roundabout at Cunard Street. Although construction of the roundabout is complete, landscaping and other upgrades to the multi-use trail on the Halifax North Common will continue over the next couple of weeks.

A second roundabout at the intersection of North Park, Cogswell, Rainnie, Trollope and Ahern streets will be built in 2015.
