New School for CSAP

**** EDUCATION/EARLYCHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT Media Release

New School for CSAP

A new high school for students and families in the Conseil scolaire acadian provincial (CSAP) will support French first-language learning across the Halifax Regional Municipality.

This school will support a growing French-speaking community while helping to reduce enrolment pressures at other CSAP schools in the Halifax area.

The province will invest $28.5 million to purchase and renovate Newbridge Academy. The school will welcome students in September 2020.

“The Acadian and French-speaking community in our province is growing,” said Zach Churchill, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “This new school will help to meet the demand for French first-language education in the region and give students and families a modern learning environment.”

A second school for the CSAP is also planned to support CSAP families. This project was included in the five-year school capital plan announced in 2018.

Quote:
“We are pleased with the announcement today. Not only will this school allow us to provide our students with a modern learning facility, it will also address space pressures in schools in the Halifax Regional Municipality.”
– Michel Comeau, superintendent, Conseil scolaire acadien provincial

Quick Facts:
— CSAP has about 6,100 students across the province
— the new high school in Dartmouth will serve about 900 students
— CSAP currently has seven schools in the Halifax region and 21 across the province
