New Season of Public Events Celebrate Nova Scotia Heritage and Excellence

Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc and Mrs. LeBlanc invite Nova Scotians and visitors to join them for the Winter 2019 Series of Evenings at Government House.

Three themes and anniversaries will be commemorated through this new series of public events. They are the 200th anniversary of Province House, African Heritage Month, and the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in the Second World War.

Featured topics are a history of Canada’s oldest legislative assembly, a profile of African Nova Scotian Delmore “Buddy” Daye and the Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute, a presentation from the co-creators of the new musical Kamp, a screening of a series of stories from Nova Scotian veterans of the Second World War, a presentation on Canada’s role in the D-Day landing operation Overlord, and a screening of Sylvia Hamilton’s film on African Nova Scotian operatic singer Portia White.

“This will be the fourth series of Evenings at Government House that Patsy and I will host,” said Lt.-Gov. LeBlanc. “These presentations and performances are a perfect way for Nova Scotians to learn about our fascinating and wonderful history, heritage and culture in the setting of Government House, the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians.”
