Next Steps for QEII Health Sciences Centre’s Halifax Infirmary Renovations

Government is taking another step to renovate the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s facilities to improve access and care for Nova Scotians for the next 50 years.

A request for proposals for construction management services for the planned renovations at the Halifax Infirmary was issued today, Nov.30.

The services required include advice on the pre-construction planning, management services of construction work, as well as scheduling to minimize disruptions to daily operations at the hospital.

This part of the QEll redevelopment project includes renovations to the Halifax Infirmary’s third floor to make room for two new interventional suites. The fifth floor will be renovated to include a hybrid operating room that will allow the use of advanced diagnostic imaging equipment during the most complex surgeries.

Other work will include improvements to recovery rooms including the addition of two isolation rooms. The diagnostic imaging department will also be renovated to improve patient care including upgrades to imaging equipment and recovery areas.

The deadline for submissions is Dec. 19. Details of the request for proposals are available at novascotia.ca/tenders/tenders/ns-tenders.aspx.

Along with the renovations at the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s Halifax Infirmary site, the QEII redevelopment project includes improvements to the Dartmouth General Hospital and Hants Community Hospital that will support the eventual closure of the Centennial and Victoria buildings on the Victoria General site.
