Nova Scotia Celebrates Cadet Day

Air, sea and army cadets will celebrate Cadet Day at a flag raising ceremony at Province House in Halifax on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Under the Sea, Army, Air and Navy League Cadets Day Act, the first Saturday in October is recognized as Cadet Day in Nova Scotia. It is held to honour cadets, volunteers and supporters of the cadet program.

“The cadet program offers young people a variety of activities,” said Rafah DiCostanzo, MLA for Clayton Park West on behalf of Premier Stephen McNeil, Minister responsible for Military Relations and Minister responsible for Youth. “It teaches valuable life lessons and work skills that cadets can use for the rest of their lives.”

Nova Scotia has 86 cadet units with nearly 3,500 cadets representing air, sea and army units.

“Each year in Nova Scotia we see cadets making an impact in their communities. From cenotaph vigils on Remembrance Day to community service projects they take on, we see cadets giving back,” said Lt.-Cmdr. Marie Bourinot, Officer in Charge, Nova Scotia Area at the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Atlantic).
“Today I’m honoured and proud to help the province recognize these youth by celebrating the eighth annual Cadet Day in Nova Scotia.”
