Nova Scotia Power is gearing up to respond to another winter storm

Nova Scotia Power is gearing up to respond to another winter storm that is forecast to bring inclement weather to communities across the province overnight and into Thursday.

“We are monitoring weather forecasts and we have secured contractor crews from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to assist us with storm restoration, particularly in northern areas and the Annapolis Valley, where the storm is expected to track,” said Paul Casey, Nova Scotia Power Vice President, Transmission, Distribution and Delivery.

“Today, we are pre-staging crews across the province so that we can be prepared to respond to outages as quickly as it’s safe to do so.”

This is the fourth winter storm to affect Nova Scotia in the past two weeks. Weather forecasts are calling for heavy, wet snow in some areas with freezing rain and high winds, which can cause power outages due to trees falling on and contacting power lines, as well as ice build-up on lines and equipment.

“We know everyone’s patience is wearing thin – we are all ready for spring to really arrive,” said Casey. “We are doing everything we can to reduce storm impacts on our customers as we face the reality of more frequent and powerful storms.”

Nova Scotia Power is advising customers to monitor local weather forecasts, charge electronic devices and make plans in the event there are storm-related outages in their area. Find more storm preparedness tips at www.nspower.ca/beprepared. -30-
