Nova Scotia RCMP wants to remind citizens to be careful when sending information online.

There’s a new scam out there, and Nova Scotia RCMP wants to remind citizens to be careful when sending information online. With many citizens thinking about the upcoming tax season, that is the focus of this scam, which makes it seem more trustworthy for the unsuspecting victim.

The victim in this case received an e-mail promising them a tax refund from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The e-mail, which was from info@unhpyf.apple.com then opened to an authentic-looking page which provided a link to an area to provide personal information in order to get a tax refund. When the victim clicked the “submit form” button, it led directly to the real CRA website. “These scams are getting more and more sophisticated,” says Cpl. Jennifer Clarke of Nova Scotia RCMP. “We need to stay one step ahead of these scams and always be on guard when asked to submit personal information online.”
