Halifax-based Up My Game is enhancing how coaches and athletes capture, review and share video to improve athletic performance.

With an equity investment from Innovacorp, Nova Scotia’s early stage venture capital organization, Up My Game will refine its product and expand into new markets.

“Innovative technology companies like Up My Game are vital to growing Nova Scotia’s economy,” said Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson. “It’s exciting to see such an easy-to-use and accessible product with the potential to transform an athlete’s performance.”

The start-up also recently strengthened its board of directors by adding successful entrepreneur Darren Burke.

The $250,000 seed investment from Innovacorp will finance Up My Game’s product roll-out and business development this year.

“We’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback from our early customers,” said David Keefe, Up My Game founder and CEO. “Trainers and athletes have been impressed by how simple and convenient our product is to use, as well as the time it saves them.

“We’re pleased to have the seed round of financing concluded and be able to get our offering in the hands of more people. And we know that having somebody of Darren Burke’s caliber on our board is going to be invaluable as we head into our next growth phase.”

Mr. Burke is a former elite athlete and university professor. He was founder and CEO of RIVALUS Inc., a Halifax-based sports nutrition company that was acquired by an Illinois-based manufacturing company in 2013.

Up My Game is an intuitive, multi-platform application that allows organizations, coaches and athletes to capture, review and share video faster, and manage the performance of athletes and teams.

It works whether the trainer and athlete are working directly together, or collaborating across continents. The drag and drop design, ease of storing and sharing content, and ability to upload a video while capturing additional content, make Up My Game’s solution ideal for a wide range of sports and training.

Mr. Keefe, who has more than 15 years of experience building and operating companies, has signed licensing deals with several sports organizations in the United States, the United Kingdom and locally.

“In an increasingly competitive world, Up My Game’s platform provides coaches and athletes with a performance-enhancing edge,” said Dawn Umlah, investment manager at Innovacorp. “We’re looking forward to working with Up My Game to continue the growth of the company and welcome Mr. Burke to their team.”
