Nova Scotians Invited to Discuss, Provide Input on Sportfishing

Sportfishing enthusiasts will have an opportunity to provide their input on ensuring the recreational activity remains healthy and sustainable in Nova Scotia.

The first of six Recreational Fishing Advisory Council meetings begins Nov. 7 in Baddeck. Other meetings will be held in Antigonish, Halifax, Shelburne, Berwick, and Truro.

The meetings are intended for anglers, sport fishing organizations, community groups, enforcement officials and researchers to exchange information and provide a forum for discussion on special management areas, fieldwork activities, and promotion and development of the sport fishery.

“We know this fishery is an important contributor to the economic and social life of our province,” said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell. “That is why we want to hear from those directly involved to ensure it is being managed to conserve, enhance and sustain this popular outdoor activity.”

More than 80,000 anglers enjoy sportfishing every year by taking part in free fishing weekends, fishing derbies and tournaments, and the Learn to Fish program for youth.

Information on meeting dates can be found athttps://novascotia.ca/fish/documents/RFAC_meeting_dates.pdf or by calling 902-485-5056.
