NS News: Premier Congratulates Team Nova Scotia Winners

Continuing their winning streak, Team Nova Scotia swimmers won two more bronze medals Tuesday night, Aug. 6, during the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

Timothy Ferris, 17, of New Glasgow, took home another bronze medal for the 100m backstroke in men’s Special Olympics.

This is Mr. Ferris’s third medal at the games, after a bronze in Special Olympics the 50m breaststroke and a silver in the 100m freestyle.

Claire McNally, 17, of Bridgewater, won bronze in the women’s 50m fly female para race, bringing the province’s medal count to five.

“I want to again congratulate our athletes on their impressive performances last night,” said Premier Darrell Dexter. “Our athletes work tremendously hard and I am so pleased to see their hard work pay off.”

The 2013 Canada Summer Games are taking place in Sherbrooke, Que. and run until Aug. 17, featuring more than 4,000 athletes competing in 20 sports in 20 venues.

Team Nova Scotia is will send a contingent of more than 400 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff over the two weeks.

The Canada Games are held every two years, alternating between summer and winter. They are key in developing Canada’s young athletes producing the next generation of national, international and Olympic champions.
