Port Hawkesbury RCMP have laid fraud charges in relation to the theft and use of stolen credit cards.
On July 24th, 2013, Port Hawkesbury RCMP were notified that an individual was trying to buy prepaid credit cards from local merchants using various types of credit cards.
The police were also advised that some Richmond County businesses had already fallen victim to the suspect.
Police located one suspect and arrested him for fraud another suspect remains at large. Through further investigation, the police determined the suspects were using stolen credit card information on counterfeit credit cards to purchase prepaid credit cards and electronics. Police have identified that the suspects were in Inverness, Richmond and Cape Breton Counties.
On August 1st, 2013, the Port Hawkesbury RCMP laid 70 fraud-related charges on a 28-year-old Toronto man. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on August 13th 2013.
