Police Officer Faces Additional Criminal Charge
An additional charge was laid yesterday against a Halifax Regional Police Officer as a result of an investigation into an incident that occurred on December 10, 2009.
As a result of the original investigation, officers conducted a search of a vehicle on December 12 where a quantity of marijuana was seized. In addition to the extortion and breach of trust charges which were laid in December, Cst. Jeffrey Buchanan now faces a charge for drug possession. This new information was sworn before the court yesterday.
Cst. Buchanan, who was released on bail by a Justice of the Peace in December, is scheduled to appear on all charges in Halifax Provincial Court on January 26, 2010.
Drug Search Results in Charges
One man faces charges after a search last evening in Halifax by the HRP/RCMP Integrated Drug Unit, the HRP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Central Quick Response Unit.
At 8:17 p.m., ERT entered a residence in the 1500 block of Carlton Street where four people were located and arrested. A subsequent search resulted in a quantity of marijuana as well as a Ruger Mini-14/GB rifle and ammunition being seized. Three of the individuals arrested were released without charges.
A 21-year-old Halifax man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today charged with drug possession and other weapons related offences.
Accident
At about 9:30 pm police responded to the area of 331 Herring Cove Road for a car pedestrian accident. An 18 year old female was struck while crossing the street in a crosswalk. She was transported to the QE2 with non life threatening injuries. The file remains under investigation.
Man Arrested for Dartmouth Arson
A man has been arrested in connection with an arson yesterday in Dartmouth.
At 11:24 a.m. yesterday, an HRP East Division Patrol Officer discovered a house on fire on Skeena Street. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services were called in to deal with the fire which was deemed suspicious. Through the investigation officers were able to identify a suspect who was arrested at 3:23 p.m. without incident. No one was home at the time of the incident but two cats died as a result of the fire.
A 34-year-old Eastern Passage man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court this afternoon to face charges of break and enter, arson and uttering threats.
