Officers Investigate Workplace Fatality

Officers from the Department of Labour and Advanced Education’s occupational health and safety division continue to investigate the death of a man who drowned at Nova Scotia Power’s Annapolis Royal tidal power station Wednesday, July 15.

The diver was an employee of Paul’s Diving Services Inc.

and was doing work for Nova Scotia Power. Work at the site of the incident has stopped and access to the scene is restricted.

Officers have interviewed a number of employees with the diving company, as well as Nova Scotia Power employees present at the site when the incident occurred. No orders have been issued at this time.

“This is a tragic accident. My thoughts are with this man’s family, loved ones, and colleagues,” said Kelly Regan, Minister of Labour and Advanced Education.

“Given the circumstances I expect this investigation will take some time.”

This is the fifth workplace fatality this year resulting from a sudden accident. In 2014, 19 Nova Scotians died at work or as a result of a work-related illness.
