Official release: Man faces charges after weapons incident at Halifax hotel

Police have charged a man in relation to an incident that occurred earlier today in Halifax.

At approximately 6:49 a.m. Police responded to an unwanted person call at the Halifax Tower Hotel located at 15 Lakelands Blvd. Police recognized the suspect as a man wanted on a province wide warrant and located the man inside a room at the same hotel. The man refused to exit the room and barricaded himself inside.

The hotel floor was evacuated, and after a judicial authorization was obtained, the Emergency Response Team deployed a sensory irritant. The man subsequently came out of the room and was arrested without further incident. A subsequent search of the room yielded a prohibited handgun.

A 31-year-old Halifax man is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court tomorrow to face weapons charges, breach of a previous release order and to appear on the warrant.
