Release:
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents and visitors of upcoming changes to on-street parking rates and permit fees.
Beginning Wednesday, July 15, 2026, weekday on-street parking rates will increase by 25 per cent, rounded to the nearest $0.25. Monthly commuter parking permit fees will also increase by $20. These changes were approved by Regional Council on June 23, 2026, as part of the 2026/27 municipal budget. Updated rates will apply to all weekday paid on-street parking zones, and the new permit fees will apply to all commuter parking permit zones.
The municipality is also reminding drivers that paid on-street parking on Saturdays will begin July 18, 2026, in Downtown Halifax parking zones B and C and Downtown Dartmouth parking zone H. The first hour of Saturday parking will be free when a parking session is registered through a pay station or the HotSpot app.
The introduction of Saturday paid parking, the weekday rate increase and the commuter parking permit fee increase are separate changes approved as part of Regional Council’s 2026/27 municipal budget. Together, these changes will help manage parking demand, encourage turnover of on-street spaces and improve access to short-term parking in busy commercial areas. These changes align with the municipality’s Moving Better and Responsible Administration priorities outlined in Regional Council’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
