From HRPD:
An arrest in Dartmouth early yesterday morning resulted in one officer being assaulted and another injured.
At 2:30 a.m., police responded to a theft from vehicle call in the area of Farquharson and Spikenard Streets. Two officers arrived on scene and followed footprints in the snow heading towards Caledonia Road. A third officer located and detained two male youths on Caledonia Road. One of the youths struggled with the officer while being handcuffed. The officer tackled the youth but he was able to get up, kick the officer in the face and flee the area. The officer was not injured and was able to pursue the youth who was arrested after a short foot pursuit. One of the officers who initially responded to the scene assisted with the pursuit and was injured when he fell due to slippery conditions. He was transported to hospital and will require surgery for a fracture to his arm.
The youth who ran from police, a 15-year-old Dartmouth boy, faces charges of assault police, resist arrest, theft and possession of stolen property. He was scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court today. The second youth was released without charges.
