One suspect, three Downtown store break-ins

Police have charged a man for three break and enters that occurred in Halifax early this morning.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at The B.P. Corner News at 1903 Barrington Street. A man broke the front window of the store, tried to gain entry and then fled on foot.

While responding to the first incident, police received two additional reports of break and enters that had just occurred in the area. The first at Snaxx, located at 1781 Upper Water Street, where the suspect broke a window but was unable to enter the business and fled on foot. The second occurred at Nic Nax General Store at 1701 Hollis Street where the suspect broke the glass door, stole merchandise, and then fled on foot.

Officers and a K-9 Unit tracked the suspect to the 1600 block of Hollis Street where he was arrested without incident.

Charles Dylan Morgan Young, 28, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Attempt break and enter
  • Break and enter (X2)
  • Possession of break tools
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Mischief (property damage) (x3)

Young is also facing one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 in relation to a break and enter that occurred in June of 2021.
