Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The ongoing winter storm and clearing of the streets and sidewalks around the Halifax region is affecting some municipal programs, services and offices this morning.
It is still snowing in some areas right now and between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow has already fallen. It is expected to change over to rain shortly. Crews were out overnight clearing the main arterial routes and will continue today with these, as well as residential side streets and sidewalks.
All municipal offices will delay opening today until 10:30 a.m. due to the inclement weather and to facilitate the ongoing cleanup. The Committee of the Whole budget meeting scheduled for this morning at City Hall will also be delayed and the new start time will be confirmed shortly.
Several Halifax Transit bus routes are operating on snow plans right now. Transit staff will continue assessing the weather and road conditions throughout the day. The ferries are operating on their regular schedule. Updates on individual bus routes are available by following @hfxtransit on Twitter, which is also streamed online at http://www.halifax.ca/transit.
Several Halifax Recreation programs and services are also delayed. Residents are asked to contact their respective facility before heading out for further updates on delays, closures and cancellations.
