Operation Beautiful Book Giveaway

By now I’m sure you’ve all heard about Operation Beautiful.

But just in case, here are the deets:

Can one Post-It note change the way women view themselves?  Caitlin Boyle, a 24 year old blogger from Orlando believes it can. Fed up with women picking themselves apart in front of the mirror one day, Caitlin scribbled a note on a Post-it: “YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!” and slapped it on the mirror of a public bathroom then posted about it on her blog.
A mere two days after her post, she received e-mails from readers around the world who themselves were leaving their own  Post-it notes of encouragement in their own towns and cities. Caitlin soon launched www.operationbeautiful.com and posted these notes. A movement had begun.

Operation Beautiful took the [blog] world by storm!  Once I worked up the nerve, I posted a few myself, this one in particular, on our community mail box. It stayed there for quite a while. Made me happy to drive by and see it. 🙂

On August 3, 2010, the Operation Beautiful:Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-it Note at a Time was released.  The book showcases the notes women have posted around the world and the stories behind them.

As mentioned previously, the publisher contacted me about reviewing the book for the blog.  I hadn’t gotten around to picking up a copy yet, so the timing was perfect.   Took a few days to read the book and LOVED it!  Caitlin has done an incredible job!

At points I actually teared up at some of the stories that were submitted. The girl with bulimia who chose not who to purge after seeing an OB Note, the mother of two who accepted her stretch marks as beautiful, the once overweight woman who now teaches spinning, zumba & group strength classes… There are so many stories of how woman have chosen to love themselves,  accept that they are 100% beautiful and change their lives!

As I was reading, I started bookmarking passages that I found interesting/inspiring:

  • Be the best version of yourself right now.
  • Exercise for the right reasons. (Health vs being thin)
  • You are enough!
  • It only takes one person to change your life – YOU.
  • Being perfect is inherently imperfect.
  • To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are.

This book is about self love, ending fat talk, being healthy and so much more!  Not to mention that it’s full of familiar faces. 🙂  I could go on and on, but I won’t because you really need to read it for yourself.

After I finished reading it, I just sat there and thought about it all with big smile on my face.
