Our first home.

Ugh.  It’s terrible to go so long without writing a post.  I have so much to catch up on that I feel like I can’t get it all in.  I can’t wait for the day that I can just plug my brain into my computer and upload all of my latest hijinx.  Typing is SO 21st century.

Some exciting news is that Adam and I have put an offer on our first house: an apartment in The Hague.  And it’s been accepted!  Eee! We’re both scared and excited at the same time.  I think we both went for a pee shortly after getting the news.  Not together.  And then we cried a little.  Together.

The apartment is awesome.  We both love it.  Though we’d planned to buy in the same building we’re in now, we didn’t after all.  In the end the place we saw upstairs cost too much money for too little apartment.  And the previous owner had removed all of the internal doors… and taken them with her.  We guess.  Odd.  But the place we’ve now (nearly) bought has all of its doors (treat!), and is about 200 meters down the road in another condo-type building.

Open living and dining room

It’s 80 sq meters and has two bedrooms, a small balcony and a parking spot (which costs A LOT extra.  City living is expensive!  Lordy!).

The building is relatively new and the bathroom is very modern and squeaky clean.  A highly important feature for me.  I hate a gungy bathroom.  I’m all for rustic living and sooty hearths, but my bathroom must have all the shiniest, newest, glossiest accoutrements or I’m outta there.  This bathroom lives up to my exacting standards.  That was enough for me to want to own it.

For Adam, I think it was the wooden floors that did it.  Or maybe it was the washing machine being just off the kitchen rather than just off the bedroom (or crowding the bathroom) like in most Dutch homes.  Or maybe it was the dampers on the kitchen cupboard doors and drawers.

Whatever it was, he was just as in love with it as I was.  And now it’s ours.  Pending the signing over process- which takes up to four weeks. *Sigh*… Patience, Grasshoppah.
