Oval closed, recreation facilities closed

The Halifax Regional Municipality continues to monitor and respond to the rapidly evolving effects of COVID-19. The following is an update on municipal services.

As directed by the province, the following public health restrictions will take effect in the Halifax Regional Municipality as of Wednesday, December 22.

Emera Oval
The opening of the Emera Oval has been delayed until further notice. With the maximum capacity only allowing 50 people, the decision has been made to postpone the opening until at least January 12, at which time the municipality will reassess.

Staff will continue to monitor public health guidelines and update the public accordingly with a revised opening date.

Recreation facilities
All open swims, open gyms, open skates and group fitness classes are cancelled. Fitness centres and lane swims will remain open and will be subject to the new capacity restrictions.

Please call ahead to your local facility in advance to confirm operating hours. Recreation facility contact information can be found here.

REC at Home
Residents are reminded they may continue to use REC at Home which offers a variety of activities that you can enjoy with your family – from arts and crafts, to at-home workouts.
