15, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Please be advised that the winter parking ban will be enforced overnight, from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, while Municipal Operations works to clear the streets and sidewalks of the snow and ice expected with tonight’s storm. Vehicles must be off HRM streets during these hours to accommodate effective clearing operations. Residents should also be aware that under section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act, tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed any time they are parked in a manner that interferes with snow clearing. The overnight winter parking ban is in effect from now until March 31, however, it will only be enforced during declared snow and ice operations. The easiest way to be prepared is to sign up for CityWatch notifications of parking bans. Fill out a registration form at www.halifax.ca/snow/parkingban, email contacthrm@halifax.ca or call 311. Subscribers will receive timely alerts by phone, email, and/or text message when the ban is in effect and again when it is lifted. Residents who received these notifications last winter will continue to receive the service this year. Standard text messaging rates apply. There are rainfall and wind warnings in effect for overnight tonight. Weather forecasts are calling for snow mixed with ice pellets beginning late this evening, then changing to freezing rain and eventually rain, at times heavy, before morning.
