Monday, Mar. 30, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the overnight winter parking ban will continue to be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., Tuesday, Mar. 31, to assist crews with ongoing snow clearing and removal efforts across the Halifax region.

Crews continue work today to push back Priority 1 main routes and arterials, and Priority 2 residential side streets following 15-20 centimetres of snow accumulation overnight Saturday. Work to clear priority and transit route sidewalks is underway and will continue until all routes and residential sidewalks are complete, including bus stops and accessible parking zones. Overnight tonight crews will focus efforts on widening streets throughout the region as well as clearing targeted catch basins in flood prone areas, in anticipation of forecasted snow and rain overnight and early tomorrow morning.  

Typically, the overnight parking ban is in effect until March 31, and enforced only during bad weather and snow removal operations; however, the municipality has the ability to extend the overnight parking ban regulations until April 15, if winter conditions persist.

The municipal Traffic Authority has taken the step this season to extend the regulations. That means the overnight ban may be enforced past March 31, if it’s needed.

The municipality would like to thank residents for their patience and continued cooperation over the past couple of months. It has been a difficult winter season but your help to find off-street parking has made it safer and easier for crews to clear the streets.
