Parade & Festival in Tribute to Veterans
and Those Who Serve
It is often said that everyday should be Remembrance Day, that’s why on Saturday, June 8th, the Village on Main – Community Improvement District will once again honour veterans and those who serve the community with their annual Tribute Parade and Festival.
“We want to do everything we can to keep the sacrifices made by our veterans and the other volunteer organizations from being thankless endeavors” says Graziella Grbac, Executive Director of Village on Main. “What they do for our community is essential, and cannot go unacknowledged.”
The parade begins at 11:00am at the Stevens Road United Baptist Church, turns onto Tacoma Drive, and finishes in the parking lot at Sobey’s on Tacoma Drive. This year’s participants include: veterans, legion members, bands, cadet squadrons, and other community volunteer organizations. The parade will be followed by a short ceremony with remarks by all three levels of Government and a special acknowledgement of the 75thAnniversary of D-Day. Village on Main is welcoming anyone interested to join and pay tribute to the parade participants as they march by.
At noon, following the parade and ceremony, the festival begins. There will be games, face painting, displays by local HRP and firefighters, mascots, and much more. Many local businesses will be participating with family activities and games, and many more will have special promotions for the event. Village on Main will have its own canopy with games and information regarding their campaign: “Is THIS the year?”
This event would not be possible without our sponsors and supporters. Sponsors; Veterans Affairs Canada, A.P. Reid Insurance Stores, Darren Samson; MP for Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook, Securitas, Speedy Auto, Halifax Quit Smoking, the Federal Association of Retirees. Supporters; Darren Fisher; MP for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, Tim Halman, MLA for Dartmouth East and The Posh Pearl.
