Parks and Recreation: Time After Time

This is literally one of the best, most hilarious shows ever in the history of time.

OK maybe that was a little overboard, but I’m inspired by Rob Lowe’s character. I recently started watching Parks and Recreation, so head on over to my DVD Flashback Friday post to read more about how much I love it, and how sorry I am that it took me this long to start watching.

Last night’s episode wasn’t quite as funny as the first two episodes from season three, but they set the bar pretty damn high. The whole Twilight fanaticism thing felt a little stale, and there wasn’t enough Ron or April time for my liking. Still though, I loved how Tom became a Twilight fan (what are they called Twi-hards? Suckers? Teenage girls?) and how poor Leslie tried so very hard to be inclusive when it came to her time capsule project.

I loved the stuff about Rob Lowe’s character Chris becoming friends with Andy, and trying to help him win back April. Rob Lowe and Adam Scott are so funny on this show that I actually feel anxious at the thought of their characters moving on from Pawnee. They’re in the credits so I hope they’re sticking around, but how?

Andy befriended April’s Venezuelan boyfriend, so she sent him packing. Those crazy kids are totally meant to be together, so I was happy to see that happen.

What did you think of “Time Capsule”? Did you feel like Will Forte kind of fell flat as a guest star, or did it work? Now check out some of the best lines and moments:

  • “I thought of a great headline: It’s time to en-capsule-ate the future. Sub headline: The parks department cuts the crapsule, buries the time capsule.” – Leslie (I love Leslie’s relationship with the local reporter)
  • “Ah, you are the person that’s been emailing me about Twilight. I thought you would be younger. And a girl.” – Leslie
  • “Cool people make the rules, they don’t break the rules.” – Leslie
  • “So, enjoy watching it. Assuming you still have electricity. And sorry about the weird blank gap in the middle. A man named Jerry Gergich screwed up the recording somehow. He had one job to do.” – Leslie

And finally, these gems:

  • Pawnee, the Paris of America.
  • Pawnee, the Akron of southwest Indiana.
  • Pawnee, welcome, German soldiers. (After the Nazis took France our mayor kind of panicked.)
  • Pawnee, the factory fire capital of America.
  • Pawnee, welcome, Vietnamese soldiers.
  • Pawnee, engage with Zorp. (For a brief time in the ’70s, our town was taken over by a cult.)
  • Pawnee, Zorp is dead. Long live Zorp.
  • Pawnee, it’s safe to be here now.
  • Pawnee, birthplace of Julia Roberts. (That was a lie, she sued and so we had to change it.)
  • Pawnee, home of the world famous Julia Roberts lawsuit.
  • Pawnee, welcome, Taliban soldiers.
  • And finally, our current slogan: Pawnee, first in friendship, fourth in obesity.
