Just after 9 a.m. today, a man was waiting to cross Hwy. 329. A small car stopped to allow him to cross, and the man began crossing the road. A man driving a pickup truck was approaching the car from behind and the driver did not realize the car was stopped. The pickup struck the car from behind, and the car then struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 57-year-old man from Mill Cove, suffered serious injuries and was transported via ambulance to hospital. The driver of the car was also injured and was transported to hospital for moderate injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
An RCMP Collision Analyst was called to examine the scene for evidence. Highway 329 is closed and is expected to re-open later this afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.
